  3. Groundsman’s course held in Dublin
21st April 2015 by Leinster Cricket Groundsman Association

Groundsman’s course held in Dublin

On Sat 26th March the Leinster Cricket Groundsman Association ran a Spring Ground’s course at Phoenix CC. The course was conducted by Len Smith from the Institute of Groundsmanship who also visited as many grounds as possible while he was in Ireland. This was our first course in a few years but with new clubs on the increase it proved timely as 20 groundsmen attended from new and established grounds.

The first part of the day involved Machinery displays from Dennis/Sisis and Campey which covered many of the essential machines in use at clubs and proved a very practical demonstration of the latest equipment available.

After lunch Len took us through the essential of preparing the ground for the season, dealing with all aspects of the process. As usual the question and answer session was a lively affair and dealt with many issues which are common to all grounds. All in all a very useful exercise building on the excellent work done by Len Smith over a number of years in upskilling the groundsmen of Leinster and Cork.

Our thanks to all concerned for putting on an excellent event. Rob Kenealy for his many communication skills. Phoenix CC and Collie Byrne for the venue which is undergoing major renovations. Arthur Vincent for providing excellent B&B facilities and to Len himself for his continued support and expertise. And to Cricket Leinster for continued support in raising standards. Keep it Green !
