  3. Grant available for new artificial pitch
12th February 2016 by Cricket Leinster

Grant available for new artificial pitch

Through a grant made available from ICC Europe and Notts Sports, Cricket Leinster are in a position to assist & part-fund the process of installing a new Notts Sports Envelope System pitch* (30m x 2.74m) at an existing Leinster club.

Key points to be considered - which are part of ICC Europe’s criteria - are;

  • the non-turf pitch will increase participation to a new audience.
  • the non-turf pitch will support the development of grounds that will increase opportunities for juniors to play soft and hardball cricket, and help increase junior playing numbers.
  • the fund looks to ensure an appropriate and sustainable playing base.
  • the fund supports community cricket.
  • priority will be given to projects demonstrating commitment to junior development.

*The ‘Envelope’ System - The most commonly installed pitch is the 'Envelope' system. This pitch will give a more changeable performance therefore offering the playing characteristics of a natural pitch, when wet the bounce will be lower and slower, when dry it will be higher and faster. The sub base is held together using Notts Film which envelopes the base layers therefore is not effected or moved by moisture unlike other pitches. In the future due to the 'Envelope' only the top surface NG12 carpet will need replaced, ideally suited for our Irish climate.

The club must be accessible and have all basic requirements – dressing rooms, toilets etc

If your club is interested in finding out further information relating to the above please contact brian.orourke@cricketireland.ie before Friday, February 19th.
