This afternoon saw Gorey take home the Ed Sports Whelan Cup for 2025 off the back of an outstanding bowling display that saw them dismiss their opponents for just 98.

Things started evenly with Swords moving to 40 after 6 overs they did however lose 2 wickets in doing so, things continued in similar fashion up until the 12th over, the core moving to 79-4. From there all hell broke loose, Swords conspiring to lose 5-19 in a little under 5 overs to be bowled out for 98. Anslem Diaz and Chaminda Peiris were the pick of the bowlers for their side with 3 wickets a piece while Hameed Raheem supported with 2 wickets of his own.

The Gorey chase got off to the worst possible start, losing Gaurav Pathak LBW in the first over. That proved to be as good as it got for Swords however as a 97 run partnership put them to the ‘sword’. Sedate at first but finishing it in style the Gorey pair brough their side home with a little over 6 overs to spare, Yasith Kaburugamuwa undoubtedly the star of the show with 50*.

Cricket Leinster would like to thanks Ed Sports for their support of cricket in Leinster for 2025 along with Knockharley for hosting on such short notice.
