  3. Get on the case for a Trinity cricket scholarship
27th June 2019 by Paul Reynolds

Get on the case for a Trinity cricket scholarship

With the Leaving Certificate drawing to a close, and the CAO Change of Mind form due to be submitted by July 1st, pupils will be looking forward to a good break before picking up a book again.

But student cricketers will need to get one more thing done before July 17th if they want to apply for a Trinity Sports Scholarship for 2019-20.

Those applying will normally have demonstrated an outstanding sporting ability, which in cricketing terms in recent years has meant representing their province at the very least. The level of scholarship awarded will reflect the achievements of the student applying.

Some of those who have been honoured in recent years include full internationals George Dockrell and Lorcan Tucker, and youth representative players Max Neville and Sunil Gupta.

The club has made great strides in recent years and had a rich crop of first years this year. For at least three years from 2020 it will play in the Leinster Senior League Cup, meaning the results will not impact on their home clubs’ promotion or relegation prospects. Trinity students can also play for their home clubs in the Cricket Ireland club cup competitions.

Club members are also eligible to play for Irish Universities in the Hone-McGregor Trophy in Cambridge and other prestigious fixtures.

Minimum academic requirements must be met by all applicants. A college offer must be made and accepted in order to be eligible for scholarship. The scholarship has no influence on college offers or places and will not have any influence on CAO or entry requirements.

The scholarship scheme is not just for first year students and is also open to current students both undergraduate and postgraduate.

The application form is currently available online until 17th July 2019. You can download it from https://www.tcd.ie/Sport/scholarships/

Leaving Certificate candidates interested in finding out more about the scheme and what playing cricket in Trinity can mean to you should contact Conor Hoey at conor.hoey@fusionhr.ie

In addition to submitting the completed form it is advised that you make contact with the Sports Performance Development Officer at Trinity via email (ross.hamilton@tcd.ie).

The scholarship is awarded on an annual basis and all scholars must reapply each academic year.
