Dundrum retain Adamstown blitz title

Adamstown Cricket Club hosted its annual BLITZ tournament last Sunday, 23rd September in Corkagh Park. The tournament 4th year in its running saw 10 teams around Dublin competing for the BLITZ Cup including Adamstown’s Youth and Seniors, Dundrum Beaumont, Team Merrion,  Expendables (Griffith College), Terenue Titans, Naas Challengers, Blackrock, Swords CC and Tallaght Challengers.

Response this year was fantastic, we were over-subscribed usually we have eight teams competing this year we had 10. With 10 teams, 10 games, 5 overs each all being played in a day this was really a Blitz tournament in its purest form. Thankfully it didn’t rain all day and tournament saw some fierce competition from all 10 Teams.

Adamstown’s Youth won their 1st round game against Tallaght Challengers, and reached semi-finals but they lost out to Team Merrion in a close contest. Defending Champions Dundrum (team sponsored by Beamont ICC) won the other semi-final against Swords CC.

In the finals, Dundrum batted first and put a big target of 65 runs from 5 overs. Team Merrion got off to a flying start but lost its star batsmen in the 2nd over and managed only 29 runs in the end and Dundrum successfully defended their Blitz cup for the 3rd successive year.

The two best losing teams from round1 played out for the BLITZ Mini Cup and it was Griffith College Team who beat Terenure Titans to lift the Mini Cup.
