Cricket Leinster can today confirm the group draws for the next two Open Competitions T20 competitions on our schedule – the Junior Cup and Russell Court Trophy.
The Junior Cup was last played for in 2019 as a 40 over competition, like the Intermediate Cup, it is being repurposed this year as a T20 competition in line with our expansion of all T20 competitions.
There are three recent winners of the Junior Cup in the competition, with Castleknock 2 (2019), Bagenalstown 2 (2018) and Rush 3 (2014) all winners of the trophy in the past 8 years. By chance the group draw has seen these three all separated for the round robin stage of the competition.
Meanwhile, Russell Court Trophy holders North Kildare 3 are drawn in Group C, while their semi final opponents Finglas 1 are in Group B.
Full details of the draw can be seen below:
The Russell Court Trophy is being played for the 10th time in 2021 and sees just one former winner in the competition, that being AIB 1 who are drawn in Group D, and won the trophy in both 2016 and 2017. 2020 Runners-Up Terenure 3 are draw in Group B.
One thing which is certain is the trophy will be finding a new home to where it’s been for the last two years, as both their 3rds and 4ths have taken the spoils in both 2019 and 2020.
Adamstown Cup 2020 Champions Tyrrelstown 3 can be found in Group A, they have avoided a rematch against Runners-Up Athlone 1 for the group stage at least, as the latter are drawn in Group C.
