Thank goodness for the Leaving and Junior Certificate examinations. Every year they come around and the sun makes sure that every student sitting these exams is cursing the sunshine outside. It seems more like a cricket season with the sun shining and games getting played everywhere. We can but hope that this spell of good weather will see us through the Bank Holiday weekend.
Topping the overall fantasy league is Irish international George Dockrell, who is currently playing with Dublin University C.C.. George has opened a sizable gap of 178 points over the rest of the field and is the first player past 700 points. No other player has made it past 600 points with closest challenger being last week’s leader Jack McGee of Rush C.C.. The final podium position goes to Merrion’s John Anderson who really does seem to be scoring runs for the fun of it. John’s total would undoubtedly be higher than his actual total if National and Bob Kerr All-Ireland Cup games were included here. Another player to miss out on this basis is Rush’s Stephen Doheny who posted a massive 259 in the National Cup. Even without the 279 points this would have gained him, Stephen is in 24th place with 406 points.
88 players have now passed the 300 point mark and all would remain well in contention for overall honours.
Overall top 30 point scorers.

The fielding points, for catches (10 points) and stumpings (15 points) are added together to come up with the top 20 (and ties) fielding players. The numbers show total points, catches and stumpings. Lorcan Tucker is another Dublin University CC player topping a category and these players are certainly assisted by their Club playing their games early in the season before the students disperse and return to their other clubs. Pembroke will welcome Lorcan back full time although he has already appear for The Foxes in both the Bob Kerr and the Leinster Senior Cup.

Somewhat surprisingly George is only second on the list of wicket takers. Last week’s overall leader Jack McGee tops this list. The race to be Pembroke’s leading wicket taker is exceptionally close with Justin Doherty and Joe Prendergast both playing Division 7 cricket and Jack Balbirnie playing Division 1 cricket and all only 1 wicket apart. Malahide have a similar situation with Neil Boyne and Conor Gibbons equal on 11 wickets.

36 bowlers have managed to claim a five wicket haul. Not a single bowler has done it more than once. Thus, in recognition of all 36 bowlers they are listed here in order of their best bowling analysis. Wexford Wanderer Eugene Brennan holds the provinces best bowling analysis to date. Balbriggan did manage to bowl Pembroke’s Sixth team out for 36 in Division 14, but it seems the scorecard is yet to be submitted, which means that their Leinster Under 15 bowlers five wicket haul is absent this week.

When it comes to scoring runs, one name is getting all of the attention, Merrion’s John Anderson, who it seems is likely to score heavily no matter where or for whom he is batting. He is top run scorer in Leinster and this does not include his runs for the Leinster Lightning, nor runs made in the Bob Kerr or National Cup.
Again there is a special mention for Stephen Doheny and his 259 runs in the National Cup. That score of 259 is only 7 runs short of his OCC total of 266 which he has accumulated in 4 matches.
Daniel Solway is another player who is having great fun scoring runs this season. Pembroke’s professional also has approximately 200 additional runs which do not qualify for the fantasy league.

When it comes to averages, does experience count? Top of the averages is ex-Ireland Captain Alan Lewis with 173 runs whilst only being dismissed once. John Anderson makes this list despite being dismissed thrice, which just goes to show how prolific he is this season. The listing shown here lists all the batsmen who are averaging over 100.

461 players have already suffered the ignominy of a duck, but only one man has done so FIVE times. Having played 8 matches and batted in six of those, he has a grand total of 5 ducks and his perfect score broken by one innings where he scored a run. I think he would prefer if we focused on his bowling than his batting average of 0.17 and his ducks.
