The Leinster Lightning Selectors are delighted to announce George Dockrell has been appointed captain of the Leinster Lightning for the 2018 season.
The 25 year old replaces John Anderson, who stepped down as captain after leading the Lightning team to back to back trebles. An old head on young shoulders comes to mind, as Dockrell has won 179 Irish caps, since making his international debut as a 17 year old. Deputising for Dockrell will be his Irish teammate, Andrew Balbirnie.
Commenting on the appointment, coach Albert van der Merwe said: “It’s an exciting time for cricket in Leinster. We have two young men who will have a huge hand in the direction this team will be going. I am really excited to see how they develop this leadership group and feed the culture that has been developed over the last 5 years. It’s a great opportunity for both to impart some of the valuable knowledge they have gained with Ireland and during their respective English County stints.”
Leinster Lightning who are once again sponsored by Cairn Homes for the 2018 season, is delighted to announce that due to their continued support and sponsorship from Cairn Homes there will be an increased programme for the “Bolts”. These fixtures are currently being agreed and will be released once available.
