  3. Division 9 - 2011 Season Review
21st October 2011 by Paul Reynolds

Division 9 - 2011 Season Review

The tightest of possible finishes. After five months of battle Dundrum 2's last pair were at the wicket needing a few more runs to overturn Halverstown 1's 157-9. If they got the required runs, Dundrum 2 would be Division 9 champions. If they failed, then Halverstown would be champions.

Skipper John Threadfold was bowling the over although there was still another one to go. Joshi Paul and an Unregistered Player who's name in unknown had the success (or otherwise) of the entire season in their hands. And succeed they did, knocking off the runs with 8 balls to spare, to become champions.

Nine players passed the 200 run mark, with Paul O'Boyle (Adamstown) was third best with 266 at 44.33, Alex Mathew (Dundrum) came second with 374 at 62.33 and Josh Uddin of Halverstown was a good bit clear with 465 runs at 46.5.

To go along with the feeling that no one in the league completely dominated, there were only two centuries all season - Josh Uddin with 110 against Sandyford 2 on June 19th, and then David Russell, 103 for North County against Mullingar in early September.

Whereas batsmen didn't necessarily dominate in the league, bowlers had a much better time of it, with nine players passing the 15 wicket mark. It has to be says that youth wasn't particularly well represented in this particular role of honour. Established players such as Grant White, John Threadgold, Varun Walia, Neville Case and Stephen Langton all had decent seasons with the ball, but the top performers were Renjith Nair (20 wickets at 11.45 for Dundrum), Manoj Monterio (20 at 13.5 for Halverstown) and top of the pile Satheesh Narayanan - 21 wickets at 11.38.

Although there were some decent performances over the season, no one took more than 6 wickets in an innings, the best three performances were Stephen Langton (6-17 for Sandyford against Phoenix), the sadly departed Rajesh Damodaran (to Australia - 6-16 for Dundrum against Terenure) and Arun Nair, 6-13 for North County against Sandyford
