  3. Division 10 - 2011 Season Review
20th October 2011 by Paul Reynolds

Division 10 - 2011 Season Review

Division 10 was a bit of an oddity. Despite it being reasonable competitive, it all ended with the teams being well spaced, and hence there was little excitement when it came to the denouement come September.

Civil Service 3 carried off the league title, winning their first ten matches (a match against YMCA in the middle was rained off). By the time they lost their first match on August 21st (to Pembroke), the nearest challengers, YMCA and Pembroke had already lost three and two matches respectively - the title was virtually in the bag.

Interestingly, when the individual totals are looked at, it can be seen that YMCA, the eventual runners-up were a batting team, where as the winners Civil Service relied on their bowling attack.

The division was something of a runfest, with 45 playerrs scoring 100 runs, 11 going on to score 200 runs, three of those scoring 300 and one head and shoulders above the others with 563. Ryan Bailey was untouchable for YMCA 4ths, his league run needing a closer look. His 11 innings were 35*, 93, 10, 38, 57, 37, 53, 10, 137*, 0 and 93. 563 runs at 62.56. The other two tri-centurions were Aaron Bailey (YMCA) with 320 runs at 53.33, and Jason Magee of the Hills, with 305 at 43.57.

This run glut also brought along seven centuries, Ryan Bailey's 137* against The Hills, Khizer Khan's 132 against Pembroke for Leinster, Geoff Cole's 129 for YMCA against North Kildare, Raess Rahman's 127 for Wicklow County against Pembroke, jack Tector with 112 for YMCA against Malahide, Carl Collings with 106* for Wicklow County against Leinster and finally David Drane with 105* for Wicklow County against Civil Service

As the batting was dominated by one player, so was the bowling. Sandeep Sood only bowled eight times for Civil Service, taking 25 wickets at 6.92 in the process. Amongst this were performances of 9-15 against Malahide (the best bowling in the Open Comps this year), 5-14 against North Kildare and 4-13 in the other North Kildare match.

Six players took 15 wickets, with the medal podium consisting of Sood, Craig Senior of Pembroke (22 wickets at 13.5), and Matt Massey, who mesmerised many for Malahide - 19 at 17.26 to be exact. The other bowling performance of note (after Sood) was David Cooke's 7-17 for YMCA against Malahide
