  3. Division 3 averages and round up
22nd August 2015 by Paul Reynolds

Division 3 averages and round up

The traditional end of season excitement caused by the denouement of Division 3 is once again upon us. Season after season, the teams bunch up, with teams spending the final weeks of the season having one eye on the relegation zone, and the other on the top.

Since the last summary of Division 3, ten matches have been played. Leaders Merrion, slipped up against Laois last week, but still look strong at the top. Behind them, there is a chasing group of four clubs, Leinster, Clontarf, Laois and North Kildare who all have a chance of promotion.

A couple of that quartet had a mixed few weeks with Laois winning two and losing two and  Leinster won and lost one. Clontarf and North Kildare were both unbeaten during that period (one match and two matches respectively). There are four remaining matches between those fourm, with two of the matches being Leinster/Merrion ties.

At the bottom, The Hills, Pembroke and Phoenix look to be battling over the two relegation spots. Phoenix have won one from three matches sinece July 29, whilst neither Pembroke or The Hills recorded a win - the match between the pair ended in an 8 points each abandoned match.

The Hills travel to Pembroke on August 26, and to Phoenix on September 12 - both crucial games.

Highest Batting average in Division 3 - (current qualification - 300 runs)

Michael Lewis stays at the top of the table, with a big gap to Pembroke's Graham McDonnell in second. Those two are the only batsmen to have scored 300 runs at an average of over 40.
