  3. DELANY HITS 75 IN LOSING CAUSE
12th June 2017 by Cricket Ireland

DELANY HITS 75 IN LOSING CAUSE

LAURA DELANY'S unbeaten 75 was in a losing cause as her Typhoons side slid to a 60-run (DLS) defeat by the Scorchers in their Toyota Super 3 Series clash at Sydney Parade.

The Irish skipper struck ten boundaries in a fine innings, but of her team-mates, only Leah Paul (17) reached double figures as the Typhoons were dismissed for 146 chasing a revised target of 207 in 46 overs.

Kim Garth bowled well taking 3 for 19, while fellow international Lucy O'Reilly also picked up 2 for 40.

The Typhoons didn't help their cause with no fewer than three run outs.

New Zealander Katie Gurrey top scored for the Scorchers in their total of 203 for 9, hitting 6 fours in her 45 from 62 balls, sharing an opening stand of 68 with Pembroke's Cathy Murphy (18).

Lucy O'Reilly (26) and Isobel Joyce (18) both made valuable contributions, but the Typhoons were unable to build pressure after conceding 53 extras - 45 of which were wides and no-balls.

Laura Boylan (2-17), Leah Paul (2-20) and Robyn Lewis each picked up a brace of wickets.

The next match in the series is at College Park on June 25th, when the Dragons take on the Scorchers.
