  3. Cricket Committee Meeting (21 August) - Key Messages
22nd August 2019 by Cricket Leinster

Cricket Committee Meeting (21 August) - Key Messages

- Agreed not to proceed with intended Division 1 for 2020 (below Premier League and Championship) and not to proceed with intended Senior 2 League Cup - this change is in response to feedback from many of the clubs involved. Premier League, Championship and Senior League Cup will proceed as planned in 2020. Premier and Championship will have home and away fixtures which will address some of the issues experienced this season.

- Major challenge in achieving required levels of umpire coverage necessitating help from clubs in the off-season to assist umpire recruitment process for 2020 season - strategic objective to achieve full umpire coverage within the plan period. All clubs will be contacted directly in relation to this

- Club Day format to be revamped into a series of shorter 'workshop' sessions to facilitate increased dialogue and opportunity for clubs and stakeholders to have their say/input into direction.

- Agreed to implement a minimum standard of facilities for participation in CL League competitions at any level - this is in response to concerns around health, safety and safeguarding. All clubs will be contacted directly in relation to this

- Good progress on Women's cricket this season with introduction of HBL (which has been a big success), Give-it-a-Blast programme and recruitment of Isobel Joyce as Women's & Girls Development Officer; increased number of clubs committing to establish female cricket programmes.

- Youth competitions largely concluded with major effort from all concerned; some lessons learned around competition administration/management which will be addressed in the off-season.

- Significant ongoing work being completed by both the Grounds & Accreditation Committees with some concern that standards are slipping in areas like maintenance of artificial pitches, pre-match pitch marking etc - this will require active club engagement to address for 2020.

- 14 people from across Leinster will be participating in a Coach Development/Tutor Programme in early October and we will then schedule 'Coaching Kids' and 'Coaching Cricket' courses for club personnel - strong sense that there is strong demand for these courses.
