CL DEVELOPMENT OFFICER – MIDLANDS (New Role)

Cricket Leinster is looking to engage a Development Officer/Coach for the midlands area on an initial fixed-term assignment primarily working with specific clubs and schools in the midland areas.

This programme is being undertaken on a pilot basis in collaboration with local clubs. The objective is to broaden the reach of cricket in midland counties, to introduce cricket to a wider audience and to support our local clubs in the ongoing development of sustainable youth playing structures.

This role seeks an energetic and enthusiastic individual who has a passion for supporting and developing people, and working with multiple schools, clubs and local organisations. The role combines coaching and development work and will be responsible for engaging young people across the region into becoming active members of the local clubs.

The successful candidate will need to be passionate about, and committed to, cricket development at a local level and for this role, it would be an advantage if the applicant has experience of cricket/sports development at a grassroots level coupled with a sound knowledge, appreciation and understanding of the game.

Candidates must demonstrate both team working skills and the ability to work unsupervised using their own initiative. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with energy and enthusiasm together with good administration and organisational skills. Equally the person appointed will be an excellent communicator with a passion for the development of cricket/sport for young people.

Job Description: Cricket Development Officer – CL Midlands Region

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED
• Coaching: Proven track record of coaching experience at relevant level.
• Tutoring: Undertaking a Tutoring Training Course through ECB or Cricket Ireland.
• Full Driving Licence with access to own transport.
• Hold a current Garda Vetting Certificate, an up to date First Aid certificate, an up to date certificate of attendance at Safeguarding course, current year membership certificate of the Coaches Association.

Please note that applicants must be eligible to work in the Republic of Ireland. This appointment is a part-time contract position commencing in March 2021 with an estimated 140 day’s work per annum and an attractive remuneration package commensurate with the importance of this role.

For those who may be interested in applying for this position, the key accountabilities are as detailed below.

  • To devise and implement strategies for the development of all cricket in the midlands region, with a particular emphasis on schools and youth cricket and to ensure delivery of integrated cricket development programmes including, such as, CL summer camps, Kwik Cricket, schools festivals, super league, the Leprechaun/Cailíní Cup and U12 District competitions.
  • Promote the game in targeted primary and non-cricket playing schools by liaising with the local clubs and in the delivery of coach education courses for schoolteachers and relevant club personnel.
  • Support and encourage the further development and expansion of the game in the current cricket playing schools by liaising with the local clubs as appropriate to ensure an effective handshake.
  • Support the development officers within each club in the midlands region and develop partnerships and co-ordination between relevant local statutory and voluntary bodies to maximise their involvement and support for the development of cricket in the region.
  • Assist in developing net coaching sessions for players in the midlands region including in the delivery of the coaching clinics initiative.
  • Plan, organise and assist in coaching at all levels, including underage sessions, encouraging the attainment of coaching qualifications through implementation of coaching courses in conjunction with CL and Cricket Ireland.
  • Provide regular reports and recommendations on the continuing development and promotion of cricket in the midlands region.
  • Ensure that a robust youth structure (with competitions and optimised participation) is developed across all the clubs within scope such that youth cricket can be sustained at a local level on a long-term basis.
