  3. Carlow & Ashbourne lead the way in Div 16
27th July 2015 by Paul Reynolds

Carlow & Ashbourne lead the way in Div 16

With 32 of the 56 games included in the league table (Adamstown vs Civil Service and Ashbourne vs North Kildare are not yet in), Carlow 1 and Ashbourne 1 have pulled clear of the chasing pack, with their players dominating the averages below.

Ashbourne's one loss was to Carlow on July 7th, with Carlow winning by 84 runs. As it stands, it looks as if those two will lead the way in the race for the Division 16 title, but with third and fourth place Adamstown 5 and North Kildare 4 only having played six matches ,it is a bit early to be booking the open top bus.

The batting has been dominated by Carlow batsmen, with four of their players passing the 100 run qualification mark. Sunil Kant Trikha has been the leading batsman by far (in fact he is second place to Phoenix's Samuel Anderson in the provincial wide charts) with three centuries and 499 league runs. Rocky Butt is in second place, with the Ashbourne pair of Terry Bruton and Jeff Conway next.

With all matches in Cricket Leinster competitive cricket having the fall of wickets recorded, the record partnerships in each division are recorded. Top of the list comes a partnership that we earlier reported as having to be confirmed - but has now been confirmed. Shahid Hameed of Ashbourne hit a quick 101 against Bagenalstown 3 on June 13, and then retired with Terry Bruton scoring 48 at the other end. Aided by a generous helping of extras, the two put on 203 for the first wicket. This is the highest partnership in Ashbourne's history, and the third highest in all competitions this year.

Special mention to the 10th wicket record paring of Josh Fortune and Martin Potts of Greystones. 15 year old Fortune did his best to get Martin Potts to a century (the next highest score was Fortune's 8!). The pair put on 46, getting Potts to 95, before a run our left Potts 5 short, and more importantly, the team 22 runs short, as AIB won.
