With over 200 players signed up for the coming season, ‘operation direct registration’ is now in full swing. Under the new arrangements anyone wishing to take part in the Open or Womens’ Competitions run by the LCU must register in advance. This can be done either by their club submitting a list of players to be registered or directly by the individual on the Cricket Leinster website
For some clubs the season start is only a couple of weeks away so the pressure is on to complete the process as soon as possible. But the good news is that it is very straight-forward. It should only take a couple of minutes to register, including making the €15 payment.
With any new system there will be teething problems. If anyone encounters issues registering then they should send details to admin@cricketleinster.ie.
A few things that we have noticed so far.
There are a number of partial registrations on the system i.e. the initial registration details have been entered but the payment has not been made. Those that have made these partial registrations are asked to complete the process. They can do this by going back into Player Registration [from the Home Page of the Cricket Leinster website] and entering the details previously submitted [e/mail address and password]. Once you have identified yourself on the system you will be prompted to make the necessary payment.
Players who haven’t completed the payment process cannot be registered by their clubs without deleting their records. The easiest option is simply to finalise the payment but if they prefer to revert to being registered by their club then they should contact admin@cricketlieinster.ie and ask to have their record deleted.
Some clubs have already submitted lists with details of players. It is vitally important that these lists contain accurate e/mail addresses as without them the players concerned will not be able to enter the system to retrieve their password and check their details. One piece of information that usually has to be changed is the date of birth, information that is often not available to the club. So if you get an e/mail message confirming your registration you should go into the Cricket Leinster site, using your e/mail address, retrieve the password [which will be e/mailed to you] and check, and if necessary amend, the details that have been submitted on you by your club.
Generally it is easier to register yourself and a number of clubs have encouraged players to do this, using the list submitted by the club to pick up on those who have not registered for whatever reason. Needless to say if you find that a club has registered you and you do not intend to play for that club this year – this needs to be sorted quickly. Of course it shouldn’t happen as clubs should not submit names unless the individual has committed to playing for the club this season. Players who are changing club are reminded that they are required to notify their former club of their intentions and they should do this before commencing registration. But no doubt there will be a few cases where communications break down.
Another issue that has cropped up relates to youth players. A few enthusiastic youth cricketers who compete in Open Competitions have partially registered. They do not need to do this as the registration for any youth player is managed by the club. Also there is no payment involved.
It has been decided in the interests of privacy and data protection that Cricket Leinster will not record and store e/mail addresses of any youth player. This unfortunately does limit access to the system for these players. Cricket Leinster will consider in the future, in conjunction with clubs, the option of using a parent’s address, if this is something that the players and parents concerned would be interested in.
There is a busy month ahead of us. The intention is to ensure that all the uploads by clubs will be competed by the end of April. After that the only list uploads by clubs will be for youth players and all other registrations will be through the registration process on the website. For clubs who have to prepare starrings the deadlines are even earlier - April 15th for anyone wishing to have players in starrings and a week later for any others.
One final point – even though we have only a limited amount of information to go on so far – it is notable how many players in Leinster learnt their cricket outside Ireland. It is currently running 50/50 with India followed by the UK and Pakistan as the main external sources.
