The LCU is delighted to announce a new 20 over competition, The LCU 20/20 Cup sponsored by the Russell Court Hotel, which is to be played between sides competing towards the bottom of the OCC's league structure.
In recent years, a lack of a 20 over competition at this level has removed the opportunity of many cricketers to play in a competitive tournament, an opportunity that will be now given to 24 teams.
The teams will be split into eight regionalised groups of three, with the tems playing each other once, at a date and time of their choosing. Some groups may wish to play matches on mid week nights, some may wish to make a day of it, playing three matches at one ground on a Saturday or Sunday. It's up to the clubs to decide.
The winners of each group will then face each other in quarter and semi finals, before a finals day in Railway Union, with the Whelan Cup final being held on the same day.

I would like to ask, why Ballyeighan were not invited into this new 20/20 cup competition.
Hi Denis,
The 2012 competition has been limited to those clubs who play in the mid-week evening competitions. If after this year’s competition it is found that all matches are played at a weekend, or if teams are prepared to travel longer distances on mid-week evenings, then it can be looked at
Was this an open draw ? ie is it a sort of region / area ( handy travel for teams ) draw. ?
Where are the draws made ?
Who makes the draws ?
Where can clubs get the regulations for draws for cup ?.
As above, this cup is regionalised - so teams were put into groups of three in an effort to minimise travelling time across the competition. Similarly, the quarter finals and semi finals are based on minimising travel.
Other cup draws are made by members of the OCC, either on NEAR 90.3fm (LHW Senior, Alan Murray, Senior 2), committee meetings or elsewhere where needed.
Procedures for the drawing of the cups that are not broadcast have been the same for years. If anyone has any proposals for changes in the system (bearing in mind that it isn’t a great spectacle, and takes a long time), please email either myself or Kevin Gallagher (kevindgallagher@eircom.net) and they can be implemented by the 2012/13 OCC
