The draw for the Senior 2 Cup 2012 has been made live on NEAR 90.3fm.

The draw as below throws up several highlights, with the Hills 2 vs North County 2 Fingal derby surely the pick. There are several intriguing matches, with Mullingar 1 playing North Kildare 1, Oakhill 1 playing Civil Service 1 and Laois 1 travelling to YMCA in Dublin 4.

The final will be one of the first major matches to be played at Malahide's re-developed international ground on Sunday 29th July

Why is there a team from Division 2 playing in what is known as the Division 3/4 Cup????????

“Division 3/4 Cup” was a temporary name used just for the 2010 season as far as I remember.
The OCC made the decision that having 2nd XIs playing in the same compeition as their 1st XIs didn’t work, lessening the integrity of the LHW Senior Cup. Hence the change was made for this season

Thanks for the quick reply Paul, so does this mean if a 2nd XI wins Div 2 they won’t be promoted to Div1. Surely it would lessen the integrity of Division 1 to have a 2nd team in it!!
As someone playing for a team in Div 4, I feel it is a little unfair to ask us to play against teams who are 2 leagues above us

Sorry Damien - forgot to put the comment up.
It’s always been the case that a 2nd team can’t be promoted to Division 1 (ie since before the OCC), so no change there.
As for the two division gap in teams, it was the OCC’s call that it works better for LCU cricket as a whole to have Leinster 2 in the Senior 2 Cup.

Paul,
Surely this could get messy. If North County II were to win Division 3 this year, and The Hills II were to finish second, and both were to continue with the choice of not wishing to play in Division 2, as they have done this year, assuming North County II were offered first refusal to replace The Hills in Division 2, then there would be no promotion from Division 3. So where is the incentive to win Division 3 for such teams? Or if you win do you have to go up?
