It was a Bonus Point victory to start the campaign this afternoon for the Women’s Futures side, as an excellent day’s work from Phoenix’s Zara Craig and Rush’s Ellie McGee guided the team to a 34 run victory.

Leinster skipper Annabel Squires won the toss and elected to bat first in a used wicket, and after some decent early bowing for the away side, Leinster found themselves 18/3 with two relatively fresh batters at the crease.
Craig built well firstly alongside Alice Walsh, sharing a stand of 42, before losing both her and Isobel Jennings in the space of 3 overs.
Ellie McGee joined Craig, and the duo batted excellently adding 74 from the 51 balls remaining in the innings, to boost the score to 147/5. Craig finished with an excellent 67 from just 57, whilst McGee made 36 from 28.
The reply started quietly, however North West built well until both McGee and Craig came into the attack, and immediately tightened up matters, bowling their 8 overs in tandem, finishing with figures of 0/19 and 1/28 respectively to turn the screw through the middle overs.
Síbha Bhoja returned to the attack to claim 2 wickets in her second spell, as a fine all round display also saw a wicket for Aisling Lawlor’s leg-spin. The North West restricted to just 113/6 in their 20 overs, seeing Leinster securing a 34 run win an Bonus Point to kick off the tournament!
