The rise of cricket in Dublin 15 - Part 2

Castleknock CC:

Further south of Blanchardstown and in the lovely setting of the multi-sport facility at Porterstown Park, Castleknock CC are looking at some key development initiatives in the coming years as they share the park facilities currently with MSB athletics, Castleknock Celtic FC & Castleknock GAA club.

Opened by Ireland record holder Kevin O’Brien in April 2011, the club has since continued to develop its facilities to make them more attractive to participants and with further support of Fingal County Council (Operations Department) changing facilities for both players and umpires have been added recently.

Castleknock CC have of late looked to link-in with local Primary schools in the Dublin 15 area. Fingal, again showing their commitment have engaged with Cricket Leinster and now have a second development coach in Killian Molloy who visits the local schools introducing the boys and girls to the game. Cricket is well established at close-by St Patrick’s NS - Diswellstown, Castaheany ET and also St Mochta’s - Clonsilla.

Brian O’Rourke, Cricket Development Manager for Fingal is pleased to see the continued support of the council adding “The ground at Porterstown Park is used regularly so schools’ fixtures in the Leprechaun Cup can be played during the April/May & June period. To have this facility so close to the cricket playing schools has been most helpful in the running of this competitions”.

The club continues to grow and now fields three men’s teams in the Leinster league and it cannot be long before it takes it first steps into fielding youth teams. Another successful story in the continued rise of the game within the Dublin 15 area.
