1st May 2024 by Cricket Leinster

TECTOR TREASURES BUILD ON MCCARTHY MAGIC TO MAUL MUNSTER

Munster Reds                    134/9 in 20 overs (Barry McCarthy 5-3, Fionn Hand 1-17, Reuben Wilson 1-44, Gavin Hoey 1-25, George Dockrell 1-6)

Leinster Lightning            138/4 in 15 overs (Tim Tector 54* off 41 balls, Harry Tector 47 off 30 balls, George Dockrell 14* off 5 balls)

Leinster Lightning won by 6 wickets

The 2024 Interprovincial campaign started for the Sherwin O’Riordan sponsored Leinster Lightning with a sunny day out against the Munster Reds.

The home team won the toss and decided to bowl first and how it proved worthwhile. Barry McCarthy relished bowling on his beloved Sydney Parade – brilliantly prepared by Pembroke CC and GM by Choice – and ripped through the Munster order.

His return of 5 wickets for 3 runs in 4 overs is the best ever IP20 figures and the joint 2nd best Twenty20 figures for any men’s match.

He was backed up by Hand, Wilson, Hoey and Dockrell who all took one wicket and the Lightning would have been quite happy with a target of 134 to chase.

In reply the Tector brothers steadied the ship after two early wickets and went on to put together a match winning partnership of 88 off 56 balls. Harry made a wonderful 47 off 30 balls (2 fours and 3 sixes) and Tim carried on to make 54 off 41 balls (8 fours).

Leinster passed the total in 15 overs ensuring them a bonus point winning start to the 2024 Interpro campaign.

That campaign continues tomorrow at against North West Warriors and then on Friday against Northern Knights, both matches starting at 3.45 p.m. in Sydney Parade.
