5th May 2022 by Mick Cotter

SPRINT COATINGS DIVISION ONE ROUND-UP 5TH MAY

In a night which saw most games go the way which the league table would have indicated beforehand, there were some excellent individual performances which stood above the rest across the Division.

Kicking off in The Hills, where Leinster ran out victorious thanks mainly to a spectacular unbeaten 103* from 69 balls from skipper Sophie MacMahon led the away side to a score of 163/4 from their 20 overs. She wasn’t finished there as she affected the run out of The Hills’ overseas player Robyn Searle to put the away side well in the ascendency. Eimear Mchale’s 3/6 and Sue O’Connor’s 2/12 saw the home side bowled out for 72 in just 17.5 overs.

In Castle Avenue, Mary Waldron’s 59*, with support from Shauna Kavanagh (31) helped Pembroke to make 131/5 from their 20 overs having batted first. The second innings saw Clontarf bowled out for just 42, as LouLou Little (3/12), Orla Prendergast (2/8) and Anna Beale (2/13) all took multiple wickets to see their side to an 89 run victory.

Phoenix batted first in the park and made 95/6 thanks to Sarah White’s 25. YM’s stand in skipper Robyn Lewis bowled a fine spell taking 2 wicket for just 8 runs off her four overs, Sarah Forbes also bowled an excellent economic spell of 4 overs for just 11. YMCA made relatively light work of the chase, with Forbes making 40 before being dismissed on the brink of victory, Georgina Dempsey also contributed 20 to the cause as YM ran out 6 wicket winners in the 16th over.

Merrion batted first in Malahide and thanks again to a stand-in captain’s performance, this time Rebecca Stokell making jus better than a run a ball 55, supported by 22 from Hannah de Burgh Whyte and an unbeaten 19 from Rachel Delaney saw them make 135/4. Niamh MacNulty accounted for Malahide opener Caoimhe McCann LBW for just 2, before Delaney had Hunter out for 28. Some good tight all-round bowling saw the home side restricted to just 103/3 from their 20 overs and a 32 run victory for Merrion.
