A month into the season and it is still early days for the teams competing in Division 1. But already certain patterns are emerging and the league is beginning to divide into two groups – a small number of teams in the hunt for top honours and the remainder trying to break loose from the pack.
Although North County have had by their standards a somewhat shaky start to the season, there is still a clear distance between them and Merrion, in fourth place. Perhaps the most telling fact is that of the 10 matches played by the top three teams, there has been only one loss to a team from the rest of the league, North County’s defeat to Pembroke in a match decided by Duckworth Lewis.
For the rest of the teams, all have one win except Phoenix so there is clearly much to play for. A couple of wins could see a team break free of the crowd but for most it is likely to be a nervy run in to the end of the season.
