  3. REGISTER NOW FOR SMASH IT AND ITS WICKET! IN 2024
5th April 2024 by Killian Molloy

REGISTER NOW FOR SMASH IT AND ITS WICKET! IN 2024

Expression of Interests are now open for the national programmes in 2024.

Smash It and It's Wicket! aims to get children excited about cricket through discovery and play, learning fundamental movement skills needed for batting, bowling, fielding and wicket-keeping. Sessions are delivered by trained Club Activators and participants will receive a Smash It t-shirt, backpack, bat and ball once they register!

Smash It is for boys and girls aged 5-9, while It's Wicket! is for girls only between the ages of 9-13

The programme consists of six hour long sessions focusing on the basic skills of batting, bowling, fielding and wicketkeeping. These sessions can be broken up and delivered over the course of six weeks or over the course of a week at a summer camp style event.

Activator training will also be provided to clubs who take on the programmes and will be delivered by Cricket Leinster programme coordinator, Killian Molloy. This will consist of 30 minute online training and a 90 minute in person tutoring session.

Cricket Leinster Programme Coordinator, Killian Molloy has encouraged every club in Leinster to give Smash It and Its Wicket! a go:

"The Smash It and Its Wicket! programmes are a fantastic initiative designed to get children involved in the sport and a great opportunity for clubs to further clubs youth programmes. The programmes can be delivered as part of an ongoing weekly session or spread over a summer camp style event. The programmes are also a fantasic way of training new coaches to assist in club activities as activator training is provided to clubs."

A large number of clubs have taken part in the programmes over the last number of years including Clontarf, The Hills, Halverstown, Pembroke, Rush and Mullingar, with more expected to take part this year.
