O’TOOLE STARS IN EXCELLENT WIN FOR CL GIRLS UNDER 16s (9.7.2026)

Cricket Leinster's U16 Girls made it two wins from two in the T20 leg of the Youth Interprovincial Series today with a comprehensive win over North West by 9 wickets at Campbell College, Belfast. Katie O'Toole delivered a brilliant all-round performance – taking 3/15 with the ball followed by an unbeaten 55 to steer the Leinster team home inside 13 overs.

North West won the toss and chose to bat. O'Toole struck twice in her first spell — Gillespie brilliantly caught by a diving McMahon behind the stumps, a one-handed left-handed take that drew gasps around the ground, before Moore was bowled for 8. Spence dug in for North West with a determined 23, and with Block they briefly threatened to steady the innings, but the breakthrough came immediately after the drinks break.

Captain Susie Whaley took an important catch off Walsh to end Spence's stay. From there, the pressure told. Lily McDonagh, fresh from Wednesday's five-wicket haul, struck twice more. Lauren Bolton removed Block, and Sana George produced the spell of the innings from the other end – 2/5 from her two overs, including a maiden, trapping the North West captain Mitchell lbw. A superb combined run out from Subramanya Ramnathpurand McMahon added to the wickets column before O'Toole returned to finish the job, wrapping the innings up at 77 all out in 18.2 overs.

The chase was quick. O'Toole and Subramanya Ramnathpur opened with a 40-run stand, and after the latter fell for 8, O'Toole simply accelerated. She raced to her fifty and finishing unbeaten on 55 from 38 balls with ten boundaries. Whaley kept her company with an unbeaten 16 as Leinster cruised to 80 for 1 in 12.1 overs, sealing a 9-wicket victory with nearly eight overs to spare.

Two matches, two commanding wins and performances flowing right through the squad. Six different wicket-takers across the two days, contributions with the bat from the top order down, and a fielding unit that has produced diving catches, direct hits and sharp glovework in equal measure. The girls will look to complete a memorable week when the T20 leg concludes with Saturday's double header at Campbell College.
