  3. MICHAEL SHARP RIP
17th December 2021 by Cricket Leinster

MICHAEL SHARP RIP

It is with deep sadness that we have learned of the passing of Michael Sharp, former Honorary Secretary of the Leinster Cricket Union Junior Branch, former Honorary Secretary of the Cricket Leinster Open Competitions Committee (OCC) and long serving member and Past President of his beloved Pembroke Cricket Club.

Michael's name is synonymous with the oversight & administration of cricket in Leinster and his incredible voluntary contribution extended far beyond his 37 years on CL Committees. In times past, Michael was also a keen player, turning out for his club in five decades.

Over many years, Michael oversaw considerable developments in Leinster Club Cricket, initially at Junior Branch level and later he was instrumental in the amalgamation of competition structures to the combined Open Competitions Committee that remains in place to this day. In 2017, he told the CL Annual Report that “it was great to see people delighted at their success, and to know that I had played a role in running the competitions and keeping them on track.”

Michael’s role in laying the foundations of competition cricket at club level was immense and all those involved in cricket in Leinster owe him a significant debt of gratitude. He worked tirelessly to ensure everything was run efficiently, effectively and fairly. Many will recall that Michael was inducted into the Cricket Leinster Hall of Fame in 2011 for his services to our great game.

We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the Sharp family, especially his wife Mary (who continues to serve club cricket in so many ways), his son Ciarán, his daughter Clíona and to his extended family & many friends at Pembroke Cricket Club and across the wider cricket community in Leinster and beyond.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
