19th January 2024 by Cricket Leinster

MAJOR CELEBRATIONS AT CL AWARDS NIGHT

Thanks from Cricket Leinster all those who attended the Awards Night & Gala Dinner last night at the Round Room in the Mansion House.

With a record 380 people in attendance from 28 clubs, it was a busy night with 58 trophies, awards and cups presented by a combination of Pat Banahan (2023 President) and Siobhan McBennett (2024 President)

The MC for the evening was Des Cahill (RTE Sport) who did a brilliant job again in ensuring a smooth operation and high levels of audience engagement throughout the event.

Our thanks to IBI Corporate Finance (powered by DC Advisory) for their sponsorship and support - we were delighted to have Michael Moriarty (IBI) present the Championship trophy to Pembroke CC. Michael then presented the IBI Corporate Finance Premier League trophy to YMCA CC as 2023 Champions to a standing ovation and rapturous applause.

Some key individual awards were also announced on the night including:

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR (2023)

Stephen Tonge (Leinster CC & CUS)

We were all privileged to have Cliodhna Sharp on stage to present the Volunteer of the Year award in memory of Michael Sharp who was an unrivalled and dedicated volunteer over many decades for his club, his province and his country.

The second winner of this Award was announced as Stephen Tonge who has been involved in the running of both schools and club cricket over many years. A school teacher and a member at Leinster CC, he is probably best known for his unstinting work in overseeing the Cricket Leinster Secondary Schools programme, a leadership role he fulfilled with distinction over many seasons.

HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES (2023)

Miriam Grealey (YMCA CC & Pembroke CC)

Henry Tighe (Pembroke CC)

Both Miriam Grealey and Henry Tighe were inducted into the CL Hall of Fame with both Miriam and Henry presented with their prestigious awards on stage by Pat Banahan, again to a standing ovation from the entire room.

The evening concluded with a DJ and energetic dancing - all great fun as the club cricket community celebrated a brilliant 2023 season and looked forward to the 2024 season which is now just a few weeks away!
