  3. LIGHTNING COMFORTABLY BEAT MUNSTER WITH ALL ROUND PERFORMANCE
16th May 2024 by Cricket Leinster

LIGHTNING COMFORTABLY BEAT MUNSTER WITH ALL ROUND PERFORMANCE

Munster Reds                    159/8 off 20 overs (Dylan Lues 3/24, Sam Harbinson 2/11, David Delany 1/30, Gavin Hoey 1/24, Amish Sidhu 1/14)

Leinster Lightning            164/4 off 18.3 overs (Tim Tector 65, Chris de Freitas 31, Seamus Lynch 28)

Leinster Lightning win by 6 wickets

Munster won the toss and decided to bat first in this IP20 match at Sydney Parade.

A first over wicket for skipper Sam Harbinson was soon followed up by an excellent spell from Dylan Lues to take out the Munster top order and prevent any chance of a large Munster total.

Calitz for Munster was able to dig in but with regular wickets falling at the other end the bowling attack prevented any batting momentum.

Skipper Sam took the last wicket, that of his counterpart and Leinster would need to chase 160.

Modgill and Tector (Tim) opened for Lightning and while Modgill departed Tector was able to score swiftly. He was joined by Chris de Freitas and they put on 65 before Tector was dismissed for 65 off 43 balls (7 fours and 2 sixes).

A couple of quick dismissals in the middle order made the chase potentially nervous, but a spectacular innings from Seamus Lynch (28 off 8 balls, 4 sixes) saw Leinster reach the target with more than an over to spare and in the process consolidate their position at the top of the league table

Next matches for the Leinster Lightning are in the North West, with an IP20 on 21st May and an IP50 on 22nd May, both at Bready.
