  3. LEWIS TO THE FORE AGAIN AS YMCA EXTEND ADVANTAGE ATOP THE TABLE!
1st July 2022 by Mick Cotter

LEWIS TO THE FORE AGAIN AS YMCA EXTEND ADVANTAGE ATOP THE TABLE!

Gaby Lewis was the star of the show for YMCA for the second week in a row, as she made 144 in her side’s total of 208/6 in 20 overs.

The day started perfectly for Lewis, as she won the toss and elected to bat first on what looked like an excellent batting track, however the initial part of her innings was far from perfect, as she was given no fewer than 5 lives before she had reached 30. She then shared a partnership of 96 with Siuin Woods who made 14, followed by a partnership of 58 with Jennifer Gray in guiding the side to their total of 208/6 in 20 overs. Sophie MacMahon and Jenny Sparrow took two wickets apiece.

Leinster’s reply started strongly, as Ava Canning and Ellen Ridgeway added 63 for the first wicket, before they were both dismissed in the space of 3 balls for 26 and 24 respectively as the first two wickets to fall to Vanshika Shukla. Shukla then accounted for Jenny Sparrow. Georgina Dempsey’s comeback spell accounted for the wickets of Sophie MacMahon and Joanna Loughran and with the score then 117/5, any slim chance of a Leinster miracle chase had ended. Alice Tector returned to complete her spell and did so emphatically, removing Isabel Saeed-Maguire, Rachel Byrne and Sarah Ingram to complete her spell as the pick of the bowlers taking 3/14 from her 4 over spell.

Elsewhere, three wickets and a half century for Lou Lou Little saw Pembroke restrict The Hills to 121/6, and complete the chase in just 16 overs. Whilst Malahide bowled Phoenix out for just 33 thanks mainly to 3/5 from Anna Kerrison, before chasing the score for the loss of four wickets. Whilst in Castle Avenue, Merrion batted first making 161/1 in their 20 overs thanks to an unbeaten 87 from Leah Paul and 55 from Rebecca Stokell, before restricting Clontarf to 125/5 in reply, Bhavi Devchand making 51 with Celeste Raack the pick of the bowlers taking 2/15 to see Merrion to a 36 run victory.
