Leinster u13s - Building the Future of Ireland Cricket

Leinster Youth congratulates the ten u13 graduates on their selection for the Ireland Wolves who depart today on their tour of Bangladesh.

Selections cover a remarkable five separate u13 intakes, spearhead by tour captain Harry Tector (2012 & 2013).

What of the 2021 u13 Leinster intake? The squad, despite the pandemic restrictions, showed tremendous work ethic during late 2020 and we are hopeful practical training can restart again in March or April, if we see the easing of current restrictions at that time.

It will see the squad start across outdoor dates during the Easter break (all tbc), providing a natural flow towards an expanded ‘School of Excellence’ programme, then the exciting time for the players to play with their Districts with further representative fixtures starting in June.

Ireland Wolves captain Harry Tector has very fond memories of his time as part of the Leinster u13 squad commenting:

“I never forget my time with the Leinster 13s team which helped me build the foundations to allow me to become a professional cricketer. Always a big focus on hard work along with discipline and through a series of well planned, structured training sessions delivered to us at that period, this played a big role in developing my overall technique. We played some great cricket against good opposition and at times, I wish I was 13 again to be back with the team, such was the fun we had together”.

He also sent a very powerful message to the current training squad:

“Good luck to all of you in the 2021 intake.  The Leinster u13s is a very special squad, the friends you make, are friends for life.  Listen to your coaches, work hard, and I am sure you will all have a fantastic 2021 season”.

The u13 programme continues to be a priority for Leinster Youth, its impact is being seen on the national team pathways where also many Leinster boys get to train with the Ireland ‘Cubs’ squad. It will be interesting to look back seven years on, which of the current u13 intake are participating with the Ireland Wolves intake of 2027.

The 2021 Ireland Wolves squad:

Mark Adair, Curtis Campher, Peter Chase, Gareth Delany, Stephen Doheny, Jonathan Garth, Shane Getkate, Graham Hume, Jeremy Lawlor, Josh Little, James McCollum, Ruhan Pretorius, Neil Rock, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker & Ben White.
