Congratulations to Leinster CC who, in spite of this evening's 10 run loss to Pembroke, have won the Sprint Coatings Women's Division One title for the 2021 season.
This evening's game was reduced to 12 overs per side as both captains agreed that light would probably close in too quickly to allow the full 20 overs be played. As a result of this, Pembroke's effort of 125/0 batting first was particularly impressive. Lou Lou Little made 68* with her opening partner Mary Waldron finishing up 45*.
Given the standings in the league, Leinster required just 1 point to be crowned league champions, meaning they would need to get past 76 in order to win the title. They managed that in the 9th over of the innings, and having made their way to 88 at the end of 10 overs looked like they would finish well short, however 12 penalty runs followed by 15 runs from the final two overs left them 10 short, picking up 4 bonus points which was plenty to be crowned champions.
Cricket Leinster is, as always, extremely thankful to Sprint Coatings for their continued support of Women's Cricket in the province. Their support is vital to helping grow and sustain the sport across Leinster and we would again like to thank Alan and Michelle Maginnis for their support in this area.
