  3. Fingal Cricket Teams hosted Coventry & Districts
14th November 2011 by Reinhardt Strydom

Fingal Cricket Teams hosted Coventry & Districts

On Tuesday, August 16th Fingal representative teams at both U'13 and U'15 played against a visiting English touring team, Coventry & Districts. The matches where played at both North County CC and Balbriggan CC. This was a first for a Fingal youth side, playing against a visiting team and did so with great success and proved good ambassadors for the Fingal area.

The Fingal Under 15 selection had a comprehensive victory by 8 wickets with the Fingal under 13 team losing a close and exciting match by 5 wickets.

The Fingal teams have been put in place to give local players the chance to play representative cricket and to express their talents on the field. These teams currently act as the stepping stone between club cricket and provincial cricket. The players get their first taste of representative cricket and also prepare them for the next step i.e full Leinster underage provincial honours.

As the two matches were a successes we will be looking at organising further games against visiting teams next summer. A special thanks to everyone that helped on the day to make it a success and thanks to the clubs for the use of their grounds.

Senior sports officer from Fingal Co Co Niall McGurk, was present at both games and sees these fixtures and a great method of further developing local talent. 'Fingal Co Co was delighted to have been involved with these fixtures and it was great for me to witness both games and in particular to watch some of the fine cricketers on show. We at Fingal Co Co are delighted.
