  3. Division I/2 : Averages
28th August 2011 by Gerry Byrne

Division I/2 : Averages

Another week for averages covering Divisions 1 and 2. I will update with this weekend's figures shortly.

I have increased the various minima to be included here.  This is as we are rapidly approaching the stage were the final criteria to entitle a player to be eligible for the Marchant, O’Grady and Samuels cups come into play.

Batting

Minimum number of runs required this week is 500.  The minimum that will be needed to qualify for the Marchant Cup is 600.  Andre continues to head the averages and John Anderson heads the aggregate.  Andre could still become the leading run scorer in aggregate as he has 3 matches left compared to John’s one.  The others included here have either 1 or 2 matches left, weather permitting.

Bowling

Here I have upped the qualifying figures to 22 but the figure needed to qualify for the O’Grady Cup is 30 so a few of those featuring today still have a lot of work to do.  One of those is Jim Govan who has led this table for a long time now but has only 1 match remaining – never a better time for a five-for!

Fielding

Last year’s winner, David Langford Smith, at this stage was finished and led the field by 1 with his challengers all having games left.  This year he is ahead by 2 and he has 3 games remaining but he well knows that to win this cup you have not alone to hold the chances, but to be where they come.

Wicket-Keeping

And still it does not prove possible to separate the joint leaders, Paul Tweddle and Rohit Bahl. Rohit missed out through injury last week but hopefully he will be back to give both the leaders a chance to win the Hopkins Cup outright.  Once you go below those two there is almost a separate competition and a lot of people have done very well.

All Rounders

The requirement for the Samuels cup is that  a player must have scored at least 300 runs and taken 15 wickets or 15 dismissals as wicket keeper. I increased the figures this week to 250 runs and 12 wickets/dismissals. Dom Joyce remains on top with his club captain hot on his tail.  They both have one match remaining whereas a number of the others have 2 or 3 so again this category has a lot to play for.

A lot of matches to be played this weekend and I wish everyone all the very best and hopefully weather conditions that all matches can be played in.
