As cricket across the land continues to modernise, the massive changes that have made such a difference to the national teams now start to trickle down to the club game.
The Birrell and Holdsworth Reports of the last few years made recommendations for the scheduling of matches played by the top divisions, and coupled with Cricket Ireland's wishes to have all the unions playing their top club matches on the same day, the OCC has acted on these reports and plans.
The aim has been to have Division 1 and Division 2 clubs playing one match per weekend (and two on bank holidays), although this has not been possible all the way through the season. However, at the season's halfway point (June 17th), each side will have played all other sides once (seven matches), and will have played either three or four home matches. The second half of the season will see the reverse fixtures.
The aim is that the league will be balance and fair, and that ultimately all clubs competing in the league have been dealt with in exactly the same manner.
