  3. COMPREHENSIVE WINS FOR LEINSTER, YMCA AND MALAHIDE – SPRINT COATINGS DIVISION ONE JUNE 23RD
23rd June 2022 by Mick Cotter

COMPREHENSIVE WINS FOR LEINSTER, YMCA AND MALAHIDE – SPRINT COATINGS DIVISION ONE JUNE 23RD

There were comprehensive wins for each of Leinster, Malahide and YMCA in Sprint Coatings Women’s Division One this evening as they all saw off their oppositions with relative ease, with just one bonus point dropped among the victorious sides across this evening’s fixtures.

Kicking off in Anglesea Road, Leinster batted first and accumulated a decent total of 147/2 in their 20 overs, openers Ellen Ridgeway and Ava Canning contributing the bulk of the runs with scores of 61 and 58 respectively, Julianne Morrissey and Niamh MacNulty were the bowlers who escaped punishment, going for just 17 and 19 respectively, with Morrissey taking the only wicket to fall to the bowlers.

In response for Merrion, only Cecelia Joyce (17) and Emma Beamish (25*) could manage double figures as three very tight spells of four overs from Katie Dillon (1/13), Jenny Sparrow (1/12) and Sophia Nulty (2/9) kept the home side to just 89, meaning a 58 run victory for Leinster, and a full points victory to put their season back on track.

In Castle Avenue, Clontarf batted first and fell foul of two excellent spells of bowling from Sarah Condron and Beth Deacon, as they went from 30/2 to 38/6 in the space of just 11 balls. Deacon finished the pick of the bowlers, taking 4/14, with Condron taking 3/11 as their hosts limped to 76 all out in the 17th over of their innings.

Malahide’s opening pair added just 26 before Amy Hunter was dismissed by Julie McNally, and in spite of Bhavi Devchand knocking over Arlene Kelly, Caoimhe McCann was resolute and her brisk 33* saw Malahide to an 8 wicket victory with just under 8 overs to spare.

Finally in Sydney Parade, Gaby Lewis continued her good form over from the recent international series, as she broke the record for the highest individual score on record in Women’s T20 cricket, including breaking the Division One record which was set by Georgina Dempsey just last season. Lewis blasted 20 fours and one maximum on her way to a 74 ball unbeaten 154, she found a willing partner in Jennifer Gray who was also unbeaten, making her way to 75* from 57 balls as YMCA ran up an innings record for Division One, making 259/0 from their 20 overs.

In reply, Pembroke made their way to 42 before losing their first wicket, however when Alice Tector dismissed Mary Waldron, and Laura Tuite accounted for the wickets of Clare Shillington and Louise McCarthy, any Pembroke resistance petered out, as two wickets for Vanshika Shukla and two run outs were followed by Gaby Lewis bookending the game by taking the final wicket of Molly McKay to round off a 143 victory which sends YMCA to the top of Division One after 6 games of the season.
