  3. CLONTARF AND NORTH KILDARE SECURE CRUCIAL WINS
3rd September 2021 by Mick Cotter

CLONTARF AND NORTH KILDARE SECURE CRUCIAL WINS

There were two refixes this evening in the BUAKIT Premier League and Championship, and it's the former where this evening's reviews begin.

Clontarf entered the evening knowing they would need a victory to keep any chance they had of a Premier League final alive.

Batting first, the home side had a reasonable idea of what a winning score would be after both sides managed 113 in the previous night's tie with Leinster. PJ Moor returned to the team to boost their batting and his 25 got the side off to an ideal start.

David Delany's 28 was the top score of the innings whilst there were cameos for 'Bobbo' Forrest (16) and Fionn Hand (18) but late wickets meant the home side were restricted to 118/7 in their 20 overs. There were two wickets apiece for spinners Matt Ford and Mike Frost.

Malahide's chase got off to a solid start with both openers striking early boundaries. Ali Frost top scored for the visitors with 31, while John Pryor also made 20, however an excellent tight bowling performance from Tarf saw them restrict them to 104/7. Ben McCabe, 2/14, and Fionn Hand, 2/19, were the pick of the bowlers as they secured a 14 run victory.

Meanwhile in The Maws, Terenure won the toss and elected to bat first, having lost opener Dónal Lynch for 10, Séamus Lynch set about some clean ball striking as he made his way to 27 before being bowled by Manjeet Singh with the score on 50. That left Danny Wicks to guide the side to 123/9, with his 40 from 38 balls being the highlight of the innings for the away side.

An opening partnership of 71 between Waqar Azmat and Monil Patel saw North Kildare off to an excellent start before Patel was dismissed for 19, Murtaza Sidiqi was then dismissed for a single. Imran Ul-Haq then struck two boundaries in his 10, accompanying Azmat (49*) to 90/2 from 11.2 overs when rain stopped play with North Kildare 27 runs ahead on DLS.
