  3. Clean Sweep for Rush in Division 2 Batting & Bowling
5th November 2020 by Mick Cotter

Clean Sweep for Rush in Division 2 Batting & Bowling

Cricket Leinster is delighted to announce the winners of the Sprint Coatings Women’s Division 2 awards for leading batter and bowler for the 2020 season. Both awards are going to Rush Cricket Club, after they topped the league stage of the competition.

Starting with the batting Cup, this has been won by Rebecca Gough who topped the aggregate run scoring charts in the league this season with an aggregate of 186 runs.

After a qualification limit of 100 runs had been set for the cup for this abbreviated season. Gough’s average of 37.2 left her well clear of Siuin Woods of YMCA, who had managed an excellent 158 runs at an average of 31.6. Rush’s Laura Carthy (109 at 27.3) and Phoenix’s Ella Pasley (122 at 20.3) were the other two batters to qualify with an average of greater than 20.

Seasonal highlights for Gough included scores of 67 (against eventual competition winners YMCA 2) and 56 against Malahide 2. On both of these occasions, Rush batted first, and Gough’s contributions helped them to scores which would ultimately prove too much for their opposition.

The bowling Cup will also be heading to Kenure and to Emma Ryan who saw off competition from Phoenix’s Georgina Dempsey in order to win the trophy.

In 5 appearances, Ryan managed an incredibly impressive tally of 13 wickets, at an average of just 6.46, and an equally impressive economy of 3.65 runs per over. Her total was the most wickets taken by a player for any one team across the women’s competitions. Dempsey had managed 11 wickets for the season at the slightly higher average of 6.91 but with an extremely impressive economy of 2.92.

The highlight of Ryan’s season was her brilliant 5-15 in 5 overs against North Kildare which helped to set her side up to chase just 79 to win the game. Perhaps it’s fitting given the two award winners noted in this article, that Rebecca Gough bludgeoned 43 of the runs in the chase that day in a comprehensive 9 wicket win for Rush.

Congratulations to both Rebecca and Emma from all at Cricket Leinster on being the leading batter and bowler for the Sprint Coatings Women’s Division 2 for 2020!
