  3. Statement from Old Belvedere CC
20th December 2012 by Cricket Leinster

Statement from Old Belvedere CC

At an EGM last night in Belvedere College, it was decided unanimously that Old Belvedere Cricket Club will not be competing in any league or cup competitions next year.

There is however a flourishing youth section which will continue to compete at U15 level and below, but at this juncture we are not able to say where they will be playing, or indeed what they will be known as. Much discussion has to take place with the Leinster Cricket Union, Belvedere College and the management of the youth section to ensure that the hard work which has gone into these local cricket teams is not lost to Leinster cricket.

This decision, effectively ending the relatively brief existence of Old Belvedere CC is deeply regretted, but it is something which has been on the horizon for many years. Despite being aware of the growing problems, and some sterling work from various members being expended in an effort to keep the Club going, the reality of the difficulties made it impossible to continue.

It behoves the executive committee to complete an orderly withdrawal from the Senior Leagues while simultaneously ensuring the youth sides continue, and I will be available to all interested parties to assist in the dissemination of information to this end. My mobile number is 086 6605564, and my email address is whollymac@yahoo.com.

I will be responsible for issuing all official notices, and whilst there has been a lot of rumour, speculation and malevolent gossip to date it is with great sadness that this decision has been taken.

We believe that the Clubs contribution to Leinster and Irish Cricket over a relatively short time has been immense, and we have produced players of International reknown, Interprovincial representatives and tremendous administrators to both Irish Cricket organisations and Leinster Cricket.

We part as a very proud Club, with great memories and having made friends for life with those we played with, and against.
May Cricket continue to prosper.
