Opening partnership have an important bearing on any match. The best cricket teams have players who are able to provide a secure platform upon which to build a total. So who is doing best in the RSA OCD1 at present.
First of all there have have been surprisingly few century opening stands this year with only two recorded in the league. The highest [139] was Carroll and Gaur for Railway against Pembroke in Sydney Parade, followed by an undefeated 111 between Ackland and Kane for Merrion against Terenure at Anglesea Rd.
Of course opening partnerships can change from week to week. Only Ackland and Kane have opened the innings in all the league matches played. Overall there have been only four pairings that have opened five times or more [see Table below] At the other extreme, Terenure have had the same pairing only once in all of their league matches so far this season.
The most successful pairing in terms of runs scored, by a short head, is that between Fisher and Bailey [YMCA].
Partnership | Club | No | HP | Ave | <25 | >50 |
Fisher & Bailey | YMCA | 7 | 84 | 40.4 | 4 | 2 |
Ackland & Kane | Merrion | 10 | 111* | 39.7 | 4 | 4 |
Lawson & Hopkins | Pembroke | 6 | 86 | 32.2 | 3 | 2 |
