There is little getting away from the fact that Merrion are going to be tough to beat in 2017. Their squad is settled, with much the same as last year. It should be noted that although Ed Joyce currently isn't in their starrings, he is thought likely to make an appearance at some stage, and will be a handy player to welcome home!
Railway Union look to be a couple of players down on last year, but still have plenty of strength. Their main rivals for promotion look to be Balbriggan and Rush, although Dublin University could spring a few surprises.
The big news is the quiet revolution that has occurred in Balbriggan. Seven players (of the top 11 and ties) who formed the hub of their 1st team in 2016 have left, with another eight appearing in their starrings who didn't play last year. The capping ceremony for their first game this weekend could take a while!
The first games are this weekend, as long as clubs send their team news in, there will be full previews before Saturday.
