Castleknock Cricket Club was formed just three years ago in Porterstown Park, Dublin 15. The club has come on tremendously and currently fields three teams in the Leinster league.
A new venture for them was to start a youth section within the club and with the help of Reinhardt Strydom (Fingal Development Officer) “Coaching for Children" was held on a two-week trial basis on Saturday the May 4th & 12th. The coaching got off to a good start as children from the local schools and colleges turned up for a morning of fun and lots of good cricket activities coached by Reinhardt and his assistant Simi Singh. Unfortunately the second week had to be cancelled due to the poor weather.
Castleknock Cricket Club now has plans to run a summer camp during July and will then look at providing coaching sessions for children on a weekly basis. With many local schools in the area now playing cricket in the schoolyard this will be great news for children in the area to have a club nearby to join. The goal will be for the club to be able to enter some youth teams into the Leinster leagues next year.
Thanks to Fingal County Council and Cricket Leinster for all their support in getting this new club off the ground.
‘Cricket has seen increased levels of participation in recent times and Reinhardt’s involvement will be a great bonus to all involved in the game in the Fingal area.’ Willie Barr - Castleknock CC.
