August sees the final group of entries in our search for the Cricket Leinster Photo of the Year for 2013. The six monthly winners will go forward to the annual dinner, where the winning photo and photographer will be announced!

The 2013 RSA Leinster Senior Cup final was originally scheduled for July 27th in Clontarf, but was abandoned after rain. The rescheduled match took place on August 18th in Claremont Road between YMCA and Pembroke. YMCA won by 79 runs thanks mainly to a brilliant 130 from Jeremy Bray. Rodney Smythe was on hand to capture the action

The Leinster U13 boys side travelled to the Taunton festival in August 2013 to defend their title. Although the title was not won, the squad performed brilliantly, beating Yorkshire, Gloucestershire, Kent and Cornwall before losing to Cheshire

Castleknock Cricket Club has just completed their first Summer Camp which was held at their home ground at Porterstown, Castleknock. Kids aged 6 to 16 enjoyed hours of cricket fun and coaching by one of our finest coaches ex Irish International and present YMCA all-rounder Reinhardt Strydom.

Knockharley CC have installed a mat on their ground in Kentstown

Six wonderful days of cricket blitz’s were held for pupils in both 4th & 5th classes during the month of May. The events were full of fun and enjoyment with children being offered competitive games and learning more about the game. And let’s not forget that we had great weather over the two weeks also! Overall, 17 schools attended the blitz’s with 30 teams and over 600 boys & girls gaining valuable playing experience. The teachers who accompanied the teams were most impressed with the ‘Kwik Cricket’ playing format and many have already expressed interest in setting up games themselves involving local schools. Always a good sign for the further development of the game.

Pakistan’s international stars proved to be as big a hit off the field as on it during their recent tour of Ireland. Six of the squad took time time out from their busy schedule to pay visits to two schools in West Dublin, where they were mobbed by adoring fans.Mohammad Irfan, who at 7 foot 1 inches is the world’s tallest cricketer, left arm paceman Wahab Riaz, and all-rounder Umar Amin paid a visit to Castaheany Educate Together National School in Dublin 15, where hundreds of children and parents mobbed the players.
