The town's benefactor for the ground is the McGrath Trust, which was set up by the local family who had founded the firm McGrath Bros., Tea Importers., where they also provided the town with the McGrath Park Memorial Hall, a local community centre that is still used today.

In 1950, the club looked to negotiate a new lease with Dunleckney Ltd, but were refused as it was decided that the cricket ground would be required for farming purposes. The McGrath Foundation in the same year had offered a site in the park for the playing of cricket & hockey. It was decided by the club to move from Dunleckney Manor to McGrath Park. The move included the buying of the old pavilion for £60 and transporting the pavilion down the road to McGrath Park.
