Balbriggan won by 4 wkts
Lorcan Tucker excepting, Dublin University were disappointing in their season opener against Malahide last week, and will be desperate to bounce straight back. That may not be so easy though, with Balbriggan having won both of the previous two encounters by decent margins. History is not really on Trinity's side - the last 1st team they beat was Phoenix 1 back in May 2014, and they may be up against it today against a Balbriggan team with a few star performers. John Mooney didn't have the best of seasons in 2015 with the bat, but with the ball he was unstoppable, taking 21 wickets at 13.67. Not surprisingly Muhammad Farrukh has been head and shoulders above the rest of the Balbriggan team, with 1221 Senior runs at 48.84 since his debut in 2014. Against that is Matt Petrie's incredible 134 wickets at 11.24 and Lorcan Tucker's 1213 runs at 32.78.
Match Report
Balbriggan bring it home by four wickets. Comfortable enough in the end but DU fought hard and were competitive for the second week in a row. But their batting is likely to prove their Achilles heel all season. An important win for Balbriggan in the context of the league - the double points against Trinity are vital.
