Two weekends ago, the entire Division 3 program fell victim to the weather, with all teams apart from Clontarf 2 and Pembroke 2 (who weren't playing) picking up 8 points. As is normally the way, that suited some but not others.
Last weekend, there were four matches, and results meant that of the four promotion/relegation places (a term lacking in substance until the OCC confirms league structures for 2016), only one was confirmed.
On August 26th, Pembroke played The Hills in a T20 refix. The Hills scored 120-9 thanks to 46 from Malcolm Byrne, and that just wasn't enough, as Pembroke passed the total with three balls to spare. That result condemned The Hills to Division 4 cricket next year, where they can re-group. It was also a crucial result in Pembroke's attempt to prevent going the same way.
At the weekend, The Hills played again, and expereinced the same result, going down by 44 runs to Clontarf. 15 year old Ryan Tobin scored the only 50 of the match, but even with that, The Hills made only 172 all out in reply to Clontarf's 216. Clontarf's attack was spearheaded by Mark Collier (4-41) and Andrew Vincent (4-15).
Leinster's campaign to move up to Division 2 effectively came to an end when their 1st team lost to Phoenix, and the 2nds befell the same fate. Only Conor O'Gorman stood up to the Phoenix attack with 28*, as the Rathmines men were bowled out for 95. Phoenix only required 17.2 overs to knock it off, and to give themselves a lifeline at the bottom.
North Kildare and Laois both fancied their chances of promotion going into their match, and it is the Kilcock side who still have a chance. Laois were bowled out for 188, with Louis Hofmeyr taking 3-29 and the irrepressible Paul Ryan 3-16. That was no problem for North Kildare, and Ryan in particular, as he hit 53* in the successful chase.
This Saturday, North Kildare host The Hills in their last match, and have to win, whilst Pembroke need to beat Laois, who themselves can still get promoted by winning their last two.
