Today sees the start of our reviews of the 2015 Open Competitions. Between now and the start of the new season in mid April, we will have an in depth look at all the 29 Open Comps - those competitions that are open to all - young and old, male and female. For 2015 there will be a record breaking 16 divisions of league cricket, but we start by looking at the various cup competitions, starting with the Minor 2 Cup - the full length (40 overs) cup competition for teams playing in league Divisions 15, 16 and also including three non-league teams.

The pick of the draw looks to be holders Clontarf 2 against Merrion 2. Clontarf will be looking for a three in a row in 2015, and will come up against a Merrion team who last won back in 2011. The two sides have not met at all since 2012, and their last cup meeting was that 2011 final, with Merrion winning by 131 runs.
At the beginning of the season in our league previews, it is only fair to say that Division 5 is as bad as it got. We thought that Malahide would come 2nd, so we weren't too far away with that one. Unfortunately we thought it would be Clontarf 3 who pipped them to top spot (see below for a look at Clontarf's season!). So Malahide were tipped to do well, and they did that, holding off a strong Greystones side to lift the Division 5 title.
