This week sees the start of the Leinster Primary schools competitions that will be taking place between now and the middle of June. The Leprechaun Cup continues to grow with several new schools participating this year. The growth in schools has come about through further support from local authorities (Fingal, South Dublin, Dublin City & Dun Laoghaire Rathdown) that has seen more coaching visits carried out at schools throughout the winter.
This week will also see the start of the 2015 ‘Super league’ with eight schools split into two groups of 4 and will cater for the more established cricket playing Primary schools.
New to the programme this year will be the running of a four-team, hardball tournament for 4th classes offering these players competitive games on a weekly basis.
The Leprechaun Cup ‘Cailiní’ continues to offer weekly games for girl’s schools.
Sponsoring the Leinster Primary schools programmes again this year are Antalis (products and services for the print, office, packaging and sign & display markets). Accounts manager Hilary Fleming commented ‘We are delighted to be again supporting cricket in Leinster through the various programmes being rolled out to increase participation levels in hardball cricket within Primary schools. Staff from Antalis attended last year’s final which was a memorable day when St Catherine’s from Rush captured their first Leprechaun Cup. We hope this year’s planned events can reach out to even more schools and give further opportunities to boys and girls to play the game during the April/May & June period.
