Rather belatedly, we can now announce the winner of the April Cricket Leinster Photo of the Year 2014.
Photos were a little bit thin on the ground this month, but we'll give the photographing public a bit of leeway, as it has been miserable. Rodney Smythe and Willie Barr have been brave enough to get outdoors, and it is their shots that dominate April's entries.
All six of the monthly winners will receive a blown up version of their photo, with the winner also receiving a photographic voucher as well as the honour of being named the taker of the Cricket Leinster Photo of the Year 2014.
Rodney Smythe spent a day in Claremont Road, covering the YMCA 1 vs North County 1 Division 1 match omn April 26th. John Mooney took 2-51 as North County dismissed YMCA for 194. Here he is seen leaping through the rain.
Willie Barr also took rain as his theme (which is hardly surprising!). This shot shows some action from the North Kildare 3 vs Castleknock 3 match on April 26th. The rain shower depicted could well be the same one that is shown above - 20 miles further east!
Rodney Smythe also sent in this tryptych of Conor Sheil bowling for North County in the same match. Nothing in the rules of this competition specifically forbids digital manipulation - and this photo has been massively popular when used as the cover on our Facebook page.
Willie Barr was also out in Clontarf for the Ireland vs Sril Lanka ODI, and took some great photos, with these two being our favourite.
Finally, our winning photo of the month. It was from Rodney Smythe's day out in Claremont Road, and sums up the last few weeks pretty well. Umpire Jim McGeehan in the rain - probably wishing he was elsewhere!
With only a few weeks left in May, you need to get your entries in for this month as soon as possible.
