At first glance, last weekend's momentous day for Leinster sides didn't have quite as much impact on their rankings as may have been expected. But look closer, and all the winning teams have ended up with a higher score - as they should do.
Clontarf remain at number 1, after their comeback win over Strabane. Merrion are the big movers, swapping place with YMCA, after the former beat the latter. YMCA have now fallen four places on the year. Pembroke beat Ardmore, and closed the gap on The Hills, who themselves lost ground on Civil Service North after their loss to Malahide.
That win for Malahide moved them up a place to 15th. There is a big gap between Malahide and the next Leinster club - North County. Leinster's last gasp win over Muckamore sees them swap places with their Northern counterparts - Leinster moving into 22nd, which is a fall of two places this season.
In the National Cup, Rush's win over Academy saw them move a place up to 35th. The other victorious teams in the National Cup, Greystones, Laois and Dundrum all improved their rankings, but don't yet qualify for the main table, as they have not played the minimum number of games.
In the other unions, there was a change at the top in the North West, as older results dropping off the table see Coleraine drop back below Brigade and Donemana.
This week is cup quarter final weekend across the island. In the Leinster Senior Cup, the rankings are predicting wins for Merrion (3) away to Cork County (26); YMCA (5) away to Malahide (15); Pembroke (8) away to Terenure (30) and Clontarf (1) away to North County (13). Away wins aren't that common an occurence though, so be prepared for the rankings to be wrong!
The NCU Senior Cup is at the same stage, and wins are predicted for Waringstown (4) away to Carrckfergus (21); CSN (6) at home to Muckamore (23) and Instonians (2) at home to Templepatrick (42). North Down are still waiting to find whether they will play Cliftonville or CIYMS.
In the North West Senior Cup, there should be wins for Brigade (9) away to Armore (25); Coleraine (11) at home to Bready (17); Eglinton (20) away to Drummond (37), and Donemana (10) away to Killyclooney (45)
Interestingly, that would mean eight away wins from eleven matches. There is also a suggestion that it won't be a classic weekend in any of the three competitions - only two of those matches would be deemed to be "close", the Coleraine/Bready game in the North West and the YMCA/Malahide game in Leinster. It will be interesting to see how close the rankings are!
