Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is delighted to announce an exciting new partnership with Cricket Leinster that aims to introduce cricket activities to all parts of the County.
The initiative represents a significant boost for the game in Leinster and will be specifically geared towards grass roots programmes designed to increase participation, while also working to develop local emerging talent by assisting with Leinster youth programmes during the summer. Existing clubs in the area Cabinteely, Sandyford and Dundrum will also have help and advice on-hand with this latest announcement.
Discussions between the Council and Cricket Leinster on the roll out of the programme have led to the creation of a new post within Cricket Leinster that replicates the positions that are currently running with Fingal, South Dublin and Dublin City county councils. Speaking about the appointment of a dedicated ‘Community Coach’ for the County Richard Shakespeare, Director of Services said: ‘The Council works closely with a number of sporting organisations and we are delighted with the recent partnership with Cricket Leinster that we believe will help build on the success of cricket and to offer the game to a new audiences in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.
Last week school coaching visits commenced at Clonkeen College, Harold School, Kill of the Grange, Rathmichael NS and Hollypark schools while lots of additional activities are planned for the summer months. This is a wonderful opportunity for the game to further develop in Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown.
